Nothing compares to the joy of growing our own vegetables, rather should I say pesticides free vegetables. Given the times that we urbanites are living in, when almost everything is being adulterated with harmful chemicals, growing our own vegetables for consumption is a more viable and safer option. The vegetables that we buy from the market are often laced with harmful chemicals, which can affect our health in a negative way and cause serious diseases.

Last month, I decided to grow my own vegetables on my terrace garden, starting with brinjal. I had bought a packet of desi brinjal seeds from the local nursery near my place. Therefore I began with preparing the soil mix: I took equal portions of red soil, sand, cocopeat and vermicompost and mixed them nicely. Then I filled 5 grow bags that I had bought online from Cocogarden with this soil mixture. Then I sowed two seeds in each grow bag and sprinkling some water, let them to sit under the semi-shade.

The seeds started to germinate in about 8 days and the plants grew up in another couple of weeks. Some of the plants also started to bear fruit (brinjal) a few days later. The day I saw the first fully grown brinjal in one of the plants, my joy knew no bounds, I was so ecstatic. Since then, I have been harvesting about four to five brinjals almost every second day from my plants. When I friy these brinjals, they taste so nice.
