"Home is where the heart is." ~ Pliny the Elder
It's been only two months now since I moved here, to my new apartment, but this flat somehow makes me feel like I had always been living here. I had at once fallen in love with it, the moment I entered it for the first time, when I had come here to inspect the place. And it has become my sanctuary ever since. So I have carefully chosen and added every little and big thing to my home to create a calm and inviting environment, so that it continues to make me want to come home at the end of the day!
It's not that difficult actually, to transform an already beautiful home into a more relaxing and cozy haven. I have always been a minimalist and a lover of simplicity and so, I have opted for a simple, serene look while decorating my home. So instead of cramming the rooms with bulky furniture and lots of decorative articles, I have rather tried to keep things pared down and simple to highlight just the right looking elements at the right places. But I still felt, I could add a few more little things to make my home more lively. Thankfully, through
Blogadda, the other day I came to know about a wonderful home decor website "
Make My Home" where one can find lots of interesting and eye-catching decorative articles to add to their homes, that too at affordable prices.
I have always been fascinated by the Rajasthani artwork for their visually attractive and aesthetically appealing designs. So if I were to choose a theme, I would go for ethnic Rajasthani artworks to jazz up my home. After carefully scrutinizing the various decorative pieces available over there in their
website, I finally selected these three items that I would love to buy to add to the beauty of my home:
This was the first item that caught my eye at the
website. A lovely, little item to have at the entrance door! Right from the time I shifted here, I had been looking for a similar kind of Ganesh idol that I could hang outside the main entrance of my home and this Ganeshji wall hanging, complete with a Kalash and a diya, is the perfect one I could have ever got. With its intricate wood and clay artwork, this decorative piece will not only bring good luck to my home but will surely add more charm. The price is also reasonable (coming at a discounted price of Rs. 1,117.00).
2. Karigaari Music Men Set of 4 -
Music has always been a prominent part of my life. And I have had a soft corner for Rajasthani folk music ever since I was child. I get easily attracted to even art depictions of Rajasthani music - be it in paintings or in statues. So one look at this set of 4 statue wall hangings, depicting Rajasthani musicians playing their folk music, and I instantly made up my mind to buy the set. There is a certain uncomplicated innocence and a rustic charm in the statues of the musicians. Rajasthanis are known for their love for color and joyous celebrations and that is being so wonderfully represented by these statues of musicians. I can already feel the invigorating music that the four musicians are playing on ravanhatta, dholak, flute, dhaf respectively. Adding them to my living room walls will not only add beauty and colour to the room but will also bring a touch of elegance and class.
3. The Yellow Door Buddha Electric Oil Burner -
Having an aroma lamp lighted up with a nicely scented oil burning in it (may be rose oil or jasmine oil or lavender oil) is probably one of the easiest ways of creating a relaxed atmosphere at home, especially in the bedroom. I was also looking for a simple but attractive aroma lamp to put on the side table of my bed. And my search successfully ended with this ivory white ceramic Buddha face electric oil burner, coming at a relatively good price of Rs. 1,284.00. Aromatherapy filling the air; soft, soothing music being played and a dimly lit environment created by the lamp - would there be anything more ambient? I can also place it on my desk beside the bookshelf, it's said that having a meditating Buddha head brings in an aura of peace and serenity.
After a long, tiring day at work, to have a lovely home waiting for me with open arms to return to, where I can leave behind all stress and tensions outside the door and can instead sit back relaxed on a couch, sipping a cup of hot coffee - could there be anything better? Nothing like it...
