Of all the gazillion songs that Bollywood and the Indian music industry churns out every year, only a handful few are able to grip or captivate or manage to stay in memory for long, or go on to become iconic numbers of their time, so as to speak. And I ain't speaking about the dhinchak, fast, peppy numbers! I am only focusing on the mellow and gentle compositions.
From among the recent compositions that have stayed with me, "Abhi mujh mein kahin, baaki thodi si hai zindegi" from Agneepath is as good an example as any in that regard - a highly melodic track accompanied by tender piano tunes and guitar strings and the ever pristine vocals of Sonu Nigam. Two other songs also come to my mind at once - "Main tennu samjhawan ki.." from Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, brilliantly sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghosal and "Jeena Jeena" from the movie Badlapur, sung by Atif Aslam. Even though these two songs mayn't be held in the same breath as the other signature soulful tracks of all times but they were surely pleasant and a nice listen, every word of those songs touched my heart deeply.
Similarly this mesmerising number - "Khwabon mein khwaab kahaan... Tu hi to hai" from the upcoming movie M.A. Pass - has got me completely. It is such a heart-piercing song, at once evocative, and yet has been rendered very beautifully in a light manner - that is arguably the best thing about the song! The moment I listened to it the other day, it instantly stirred up something inside me... the longing, the ache, the thirst for one's beloved... so powerful are the lyrics that the words stay in the listener's psyche for long... more so if your beloved is currently away from you. There mayn't be anything extra-ordinary about the music or Ankit Tiwari's vocals but the simplicity with which the composition has been put together is what makes it so endearing and affable. The song is surely acting like a gentle bliss for me. The music is light and simple, the lyrics are sensitive and tenderly evocative. And regarding Ankit Tiwari's rendition, there is a sober honesty in his raw voice that makes me believe him. The tone throughout the entire song is so vulnerable that one can relate to and empathize with the heart-bleeding lover! Just closing the eyes, one may actually feel the intense longing and heartache depicted in the song. May be, only those who are in love will be able to feel the overwhelming emotions that this song arouses. Actually all of the lyrics in this song would make one want to cuddle up to his/her beloved and love her/him even more!
May every one (who hasn't been blessed yet) be blessed with his/her soul-mate at the earliest and may no one ever be separated from his/her beloved! Amen...
