When it comes to movies, I have mostly preferred comedies over other genres as the former provides the perfect break from our stressful lives.
FryDay is one such side-splitting comedy one cannot afford to miss. Right from the time when its trailer was out, I had been eagerly waiting for the movie's release, having kept huge expectations. One prime reason that made me gravitate towards the movie was the fresh pairing of comedy king 'Chi Chi' (as Govinda is fondly called) and 'Chu Cha' of 'Fukrey' fame, Varun Sharma. Both of them are amazing actors and are known for their natural comedic energy.
If comedy is about timing, very few actors have had it better than Govinda. The 'Hero No. 1' star is a versatile actor who has essayed a gamut of roles in his long career, be it romance, action or family drama but he found his true calling in comedy roles. In fact, in the 90's, comedy was synonymous with Govinda. He had developed his own brand of comedy. With his infectious energy, impeccable comic timing, funny antics and range of expressions, he had perfected the art of how to crack up the audiences. No wonder
during his heydays, he was the ultimate poster boy for the typical Hindi entertainer. Even after so many years, his spontaneity and flair for comedy remain intact.
Similarly Varun Sharma, who became popular with his role of 'Chu Cha' in his 2013 debut film 'Fukrey', too is immensely talented and has a great sense of humour. Although he is relatively new in the Hindi film industry he has already earned a huge fan following for his comic abilities.
So getting to see the comic duo together on the big screen had really piqued my interest for FryDay. And now having seen the movie, I can surely say that the 'Bade Chotey jodi' absolutely lived up to the expectations. Both of them are in their elements in FryDay, essaying their roles with élan.

Set in Delhi, the movie's plot follows the lives of two contrasting characters - the guileless and out of luck salesman, Rajiv Chhabra (played by Varun Sharma) and the streetsmart and wily theatre actor Gagan Kapoor (played by Govinda). And when they stumble into each other’s lives, what follows is comic mayhem that will crack you up.
Being served an ultimatum by his boss to make at least one sale by Friday or else he would be sacked, Rajiv Chhabra (Varun) desperately seeks a customer for his water purifier. He finally finds one in Bela (Prabhleen Sandhu) who coincidentally happens to be Gagan's wife. So as asked, he reaches her house on Friday, posing as her sworn brother. Meanwhile, behind her back, Bela's husband Gagan (Govinda) is two-timing her with a fan of his, Bindu (Digangana Suryavanshi) and on the fated Friday, knowing that Bela would be away in Shimla, he calls Bindu over to have a good romantic time. But his plans get dashed, first with Rajiv's arrival and then with Bela's. The rest of the movie is about how Gagan (Govinda) manages to hide his extramarital affair from his wife, by juggling lies and in doing so, he is aided by Rajiv (Varun), albeit grudgingly. This leads to several hilarious situations that will surely leave one in splits.
More than anything else, it’s the sparkling chemistry between the two (Govinda and Varun) that adds a certain verve to the movie. Their interactions are totally hilarious and will literally have you rolling on the floor laughing.

There is, for instance, this particular sequence when Govinda, in his inimitable style, asks Varun to leave his house at once saying,
"Oyee nau rason ke Vibhakt ras, Vyakaran mein uljhe huye chaand, Bina DNA ke baal, Vikram bullet ke baitaal,
Tu chalta hai ki main nikaalun yahan se"
To this, when Varun asks, "Ooo... jiju kaise kar lete ho? Meri aaj tak itni achi kisine taarif nahin kari jitni ache se aap bejati kar rahe ho", pat comes the reply from Govinda, "Aabe tu teri insult se kaise khush ho sakta hai? Besharam gende ke behaya khaal, bina pankhe ke chaupaal... Teri salesgiri ke tu aur punch mara na, to aisa punch marunga ki panchmahabhoot mein linn hojayega". Trust me, the way two actors complement each other, it is one hell of a comic ride.
There are several such funny lines that will crack you up but more than the dialogues, it's the way Govinda delivers them that rocks the scene. The veteran actor is at his vintage best in FryDay, absolutely nailing his part with such natural ease. He can pull off such scenes even in his sleep. It's not easy to match up to Govinda's phenomenal comic timing but Varun Sharma does a commendable job at it.

For example, there is another sequence when Bela (Prabhleen Sandhu), upon catching her husband Gagan in a compromising position with an unknown girl (Bindu), confronts him asking who the girl was, the way Govinda cleverly thrusts the onus of explaining everything on Varun and saves his skin, is a treat to watch --
Govinda: "Yeh iski biwi hai" and then looking at Varun, says nonchalantly, "Tu bolta kyun nahi hai be?"
Varun: "I am speechless".
Govinda: "No, you have to give a big speech. She is your wife".
Packed with several such hilarious moments, FryDay is an absolute laugh riot and a must-watch for anyone looking for a heart-warming laugh, more so because of the comic duo of Govinda and Varun. Both of them have a tremendous flair for comedy and together they provide ample dosage of laughter. I certainly had a blast. Varun's easy-going style, his buffoonery and ability to keep a deadpan expression coupled with Govinda’s impeccable timing and comic nuances make them an ideal comic pair onscreen. Given their amazing chemistry, I would love to see them together again in the near future. The two can surely become a comedy tour de force.
