Sisir Saras 2020 |
Sisir Saras, another popular crafts fair held in Bhubaneswar every year, concluded yesterday and I had a lovely time exploring (and purchasing) several indigenous and traditional handicrafts, handloom products, terracotta, bamboo-work, brass and metal crafts, ivory and stoneworks of Odisha, besides those from other states of the country. Well, for craft aesthetes and aficionados based in Bhubaneswar and nearby places, the year 2020 surely began on a bright note with the opening of Sisir Saras Fair on 4th of January.

This fair, organised by Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) and sponsored by Ministry of Rural Development (Government of India) at the IDCO Exhibition Ground, provides a marketing platform to the rural producers to display and sell their products to urban consumers. Rural entrepreneurs and self-help groups from 30 districts of Odisha as well as from 25 states of the country had set up stalls to sell their products. This year, there were close to 300 stalls in Sisir Saras fair.

Besides having a food court, the 10 days fair also had cultural programmes conducted every evening. So for the Bhubaneswarites looking to have a good time, Sisir Saras was a great event to attend.
