Do good, Feel good |
Just as some or the other disturbing incident every second day forces me to lose a little more faith in humanity, I come across someone or something that once again restores my faith. Indeed, Humanity still exists. There never has been a dearth of good samaritans around but how many from among us, in this need-based world, would voluntarily devote time and efforts to teach slum children for free, without expecting any returns?
This post is about Rajesh Kumar Sharma and his friend Lakshmi Chandra who are running a make-shift school for slum children in Shakarpur under the Metro Rail Flyover in New Delhi since the last 2 years or so. Rajesh Kumar who works in a grocery store, once happened to see a few slum kids idling away time in the open fields while going home. Himself being a college drop-out (he had to drop out of his college due to financial probems in his family), he knows the value of education and so he decided to start teaching the kids so that they become able to stand on their own feet some day. He selflessly takes out 2 hours each day from his work to teach the kids and his good friend Lakshmi Chandra helps him in this endeavour.
Such selfless deeds for the greater good of the society need to be encouraged. I only wish some NGO or noble men with similar hearts of gold come forward to help Rajesh Kumar and Lakshmi Chandra so that their efforts bear fruits. A salute to these two noble gentlemen.
